Ingredients
- Sauce:
- 1/2 c butter
- 2 c sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 c flour
- 1 t baking powder
- 1/2 t salt
- 3/4 t baking soda
- 1/2 t nutmeg
- 1/2 t cinnamon
- 3 c apples, peeled and chopped (20 oz apples work well)
- 1 c nuts (optional)
- 1 c sugar
- 1/2 c butter
- 1/2 c half and half
- 1 t rum or vanilla extract

Preparation
Step 1
Cake:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add dry ingredients gradually. Stir in apples and nuts. Grease a 9x13" pan. Bake at 325 for 45-50 minutes.
Sauce:
Combine butter, sugar and half and half in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally until hot. Add extract or rum. Pour over cake.
*Note: Can be made a day ahead.
