Ingredients
- 1 cake or pkg yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 TBSP shortening
- 1 3/4 cup milk (scalded)
- 7 to 7 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 of 15oz box raisins
- melted shortening

Preparation
Step 1
dissolve yeast and 1 tsp salt in lukewarm water. let stand 10 mins. Add remaining salt, sugar and shortening to scalded milk. Cool to lukewarm.
Gradually add yeast to mixture and flour beating thoroughly after each addition. turn dough out onto lightly floured board. add raisins and knead for about 10 mins or until light and satiny. Form into ball and place in greased bowl. Brush top lightly with melted butter. Cover and let rise for about 1 hr and 30 mins or until double in bulk. Divide into 2 portions, knead and shape into 2 loaves. Place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise again until double in bulk.
Bake at 350° for 35-40 mins.
