Ingredients

  • 1 Cup scalded milk
  • 1/2 Cup butter
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
  • 4 1/2 tsp. yeast(or 2 pkgs.) in 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 7-7 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1 egg yolk mixed with 2 Tbsp. water for topping

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Scald milk and pour over butter, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Stir to mix. Beat in eggs in a separate bowl and add vanilla. Slowly add the egg mixture to the butter and mix. Add in yeast and raisins and stir. Gradually fold in flour, saving some for kneading dough. Once dough has formed into a ball, remove from bowl and knead for 15 min. Return to greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. Punch down dough and divide into 3 greased loaf pans. Bake for 30 min. Remove bread to wire racks and immediately brush with mixture of egg yolk and water.
