- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half or milk
- 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon good honey
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large loaf Challah or brioche
- 3-4 tablespoons butter
- Vegetable oil
- Butter
- Pure maple syrup
- Good raspberry preserves (optional)
- Sifted confectioners' sugar (optional)

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Sugar or cinnamon sugar
Classic French Toast

1. Whisk together eggs, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, half-and-half, or milk
- 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 6 slices (1-inch-thick) bread, preferably day old
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Pure maple syrup, for serving (optional)
Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches Slow Cooker

1. Spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray
- 1 1/2 lbs beef round steak
- 1 green pepper, sliced thin
- 1 medium onion, sliced thin
- 1 (14 oz) can beef broth
- 1 envelope Italian dressing mix
- 1 large loaf French bread, siced into sandwich lengths (or 4-6 hoagie buns)
- Provolone cheese slices
Southwestern Beef Stew

This zippy stew seasoned with picante sauce is great on cold winter evenings
- 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 jar (16 ounces) picante sauce
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 4 medium carrots, cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup cold water
Luscious Lemon Coffee Cake

- 1 (18 1/4 ounce) package pineapple cake mix, without pudding
- 1 (3 1/2 ounce) package instant lemon pudding mix

- 1/4 cup uncooked pearl barley
- 1 boneless beef sirloin steak or top round steak (about 1 pound), cut into 1-inch cubes
- 6 ounces mushrooms, sliced (about 2 cups)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves, crushed
- 1 generous dash ground black pepper
- 2 medium carrots, sliced (about 1 cup)
