New England Bakery-Style Fig Squares

This will be a real challenge I think
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 (30-ounce) jar or container fig filling
Boston Baked Beans (Cooks Illustrated)

The beans can be made ahead
- 4 ounces salt pork, trimmed of rind and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 2 ounces (2 slices) bacon, cut into 1/4 -inch pieces
- 1 medium onion, chopped fine
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon mild molasses
- 1 1/2 tablespoons brown mustard
- 1 pound (about 2 1/2 cups) dried small white beans, rinsed and picked over
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon cider vinegar
- Ground black pepper

This recipe was born out of a craving for my mom's meat pies, which I haven't had in YEARS (like, 15 at least?)
- 2 TBSP vegetable oil
- 3-4 cloves garlic
- 1 small yellow onion (cook at beginning)
- 2 inches fresh ginger
- 1.5 Tablespoons curry powder
- 1 teaspoon tumeric
- 1 pinch crushed red pepper
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium potato
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 1/2 lb frozen peas
- Rice or naan to serve

- 1 (7.4 ounce) box Alpine Spiced Apple Cider Instant Original Drink Mix (Not sugar free)
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 (14 ounce) bag Kraft Caramels
Potato and Green Bean Salad

Steamed fresh green beans are a tasty addition to this nicely seasoned sour cream and dill potato salad
- 2 pounds red-skinned potatoes, scrubbed and cut in 1-inch pieces
- 1 1/2-2 cups green beans, steamed until tender and cut in 1-inch lengths
- 1/2 cup finely chopped sweet onion
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
- 1 clove garlic, mashed and finely minced
- 2/3 cup mayonnaise, light or regular, or more, to taste
- 1 tablespoon dill relish
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh or freeze dried dill
- Salt and pepper, to taste

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 2 teaspoons pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 broiler/fryer chicken (3 to 3-1/2 pounds), cut up
- Oil for frying
