- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk or sour milk*
- 3/4 cup chopped cranberries
- 1 recipe Chai Cream Cheese Frosting
- Sugared Cranberries (optional)
- Cinnamon stick shards (optional)
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch freshly ground black pepper
- Sugared Cranberries:
- Frozen cranberries
- Granulated sugar
- Chai Cream Cheese Frosting:
- Yield: about 2-3/4 cups

- Cookies:

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons espresso powder (or finely ground espresso beans)
- 3 large eggs, plus 1 egg, lightly beaten, for brushing tops of loaves
- 2 tablespoons coffee extract
- Chocolate Dip:
- 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or pieces
- Kahlua Icing:
- 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
- 2 tablespoons Kahlua or other coffee-flavored liqueur
- A few drops of whole milk
- note: you should add an additional 1/4 to 1/2 cup light brown sugar to the batter for added sweetness.
