Mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker; strain out the ice, and serve.
VARIATIONS:
The original 1928 gimlet called for "gin, a spot of lime, and soda."
New York's Four Seasons Hotel uses 4 oz of vodka, 1/2 oz each of fresh and Rose's lime juice.
The Rose's Lime Juice label suggests 1-1/2 oz vodka, rum, or gin, with 1 oz of lime juice.
The Richmond Gimlet calls for 2 oz gin, 1 oz lime juice, 1 oz simple syrup, and a large sprig of fresh mint.
Gimlets are also served on the rocks, garnished with a slice of lime.
