Braised Chicken Thighs with Potatoes, Porcini and Dried Cherries

In a medium saucepan, heat 1 teaspoon of the oil
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon canola oil
- 11 large garlic cloves, 8 whole and 3 crushed
- 1 cup sour cream or crème fraîche
- 1/2 cup dried porcini mushrooms (1/2 ounce)
- Kosher salt
- 2 pounds large chicken thighs
- 2 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8-inch thick
- 1/2 cup unsweetened dried sour cherries (about 2 ounces)
- Celery leaves, for garnish
White Fruit Cake

- 3/4 lb. butter
- 6 eggs
- 1 lb. sugar
- 1 box golden raisins (15 oz.)
- 2 lbs. red candied cherries
- 2 lbs. green candied cherries
- 1 lb. pecans
- 1/2 lb. walnuts
- 1 bag coconut (14 oz.)
- 2 lbs. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup apple juice (may need a bit more)
- 4 oz. candied pineapple
- 3 tsp. vanilla
