  • 2 medium sweet onions (like Vidalia orTexas 1015 sweet onions, cut into 1/4-inch rings)
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle powder or chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Oil for frying
