Heart Sandwich Cookies

For the cookie batter: In the bowl of an electric mixer, whip the butter until smooth
- 2 1/2 sticks lightly salted butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, plus additional flour for rolling the cookies
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup seedless raspberry jam
- Powdered sugar, optional
- Special equipment: 2 heart-shaped (or round) cookie cutters, one about 1 1/2 inches and one about 3/4 inches

Heat a 10-inch straight-sided skillet over medium-high heat
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound spicy Italian sausage (about 5 links)
- 8 ounces bacon, sliced into 1/3-inch pieces
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, small diced
- 2 cups grape tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- Two 15.5-ounce cans cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves removed and chopped
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, leaves removed and chopped
- 1 cup ditalini pasta or elbow macaroni
