Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Optional Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup white chocolate pieces
- 1/2 cup semisweet or regular chocolate pieces
- 1/2 cup chopped, toasted almonds
- 1 recipe Chocolate Icing (optional)
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 2 ounces semisweet chocolate or white chocolate pieces

- 1 cup red wine, such as cabernet sauvignon or pinot noir
- 1 (15-ounce) can low-sodium beef broth, plus extra, as needed
- 1/2 ounce dried porcini mushrooms
- 1 large sprig fresh rosemary, leaves removed and chopped
- 6 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves removed and chopped
