Christmas Morning Wife Saver

In a 9x13 inch butter glass baking dish, put 8 slices of bread
- 16 slices white bread, crusts removed
- 16 slices bacon or ham, thinly sliced
- 16 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 to 1 / tsp. dry mustard
- 1/4 c. minced onion
- 1/4 c. green pepper, diced
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire
- 3 c. whole milk
- Dash of red pepper sauce (Tabasco)
- 1/4 lb. butter
- Crushed Special K or corn flakes
Chicken and Dumplings

Remove skin from chicken and shred meat into large pieces
- 1 whole store-bought roast chicken (about 2 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 container (7 ounces) chopped onions
- 6 cans (14 ounces) low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 container (14 ounces) pre-cut carrot sticks, chopped
- 1 container (14 ounces) pre-cut celery sticks, chopped
- 1 roll (16.3 ounces) golden buttermilk biscuit dough
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed chicken gravy
Rosemary Lemon no Knead Bread

In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, rosemary and zest
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
- 1 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary
- 2 tsp. chopped lemon zest
- Cornmeal as needed
Leek and Pancetta Risotto with Fine Herbs

Put the parsley, chervil, tarragon, 4 Tbs
- 1 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh chervil
- 1 to 2 Tbs. chopped fresh tarragon
- 6 Tbs. olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 3 oz. pancetta, diced
- 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
- 4 leeks, white and light green portions, rinsed well and thinly sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 cups Arborio rice
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 6 cups chicken broth, warmed
- 2 Tbs. unsalted butter, cut into 2 pieces
- 1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
Red Wine Braised Short Ribs

Soak a tagine according to the manufacturer’s instructions
- 3 Tbs. olive oil
- 3 3/4 lb. bone-in beef short ribs (6 to 8 pieces)
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 celery stalk, cut into 1/4-inch dice
- 2 carrots, cut into 1/4-inch dice
- 3/4 cup finely diced shallot
- 1 Tbs. minced garlic
- 3 Tbs. tomato paste
- 3/4 tsp. crushed Aleppo chili
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 3/4 cup red wine
- 1 Tbs. finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
- Mashed potatoes for serving (see related recipe at left)
Peppermint Bark

- 1 package (16 ounces) vanilla-flavored candy coating (almond bark), broken into pieces
- 24 hard peppermint candies

- 1/2 tsp sage

- 1/4 tsp pepper

- 1 can cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Peach and Raspberry Shortcake

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
- To assemble:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks), diced
- 2 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup heavy cream, chilled
- 1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoons water or milk, for egg wash
- 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and thinly sliced
- 1 pint raspberries
- 1 orange, zest removed in long strips
Easy Strawberry Jam

Place the strawberries in a colander and rinse them under cold running water
- 3 pints fresh strawberries
- 3 cups superfine sugar
- 2 tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
- 1/2 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and small-diced
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
