Cantuccini (Tuscan almond biscuits)

Preheat your oven to 170.C/340
- 500 g plain (all-purpose) flour
- 400 g sugar
- 250 g almonds, toasted
- 3 eggs
- 3 egg yolks
- 50 g melted butter
- 1 sachet "natural" baking powder (cream of tartar)
- 1 glass sweet vln santo
- pinch of salt
- good pinch of aniseed
- To glaze: 1 egg yolk, half an egg white, aniseed.
Creamy Penne with Corn and Bacon

1. Cook penne according to package directions
- 8 oz. penne (tube-shaped pasta)
- 8 oz. bacon, coarsely chopped
- 2 1/4 cups corn kernels (2 to 3 ears corn)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup packed chopped fresh basil, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
San Francisco Chops

In a skillet, brown pork chops on both sides in oil; transfer to a slow cooker
- 4 bone-in pork loin chops (1 inch thick) - I use boneless sirloin pork chops
- 1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced (I use 2)
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup red wine or chicken broth (I use the wine)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (use more if you like, I do)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon cold water
