Meat sauce for a variety of pastas, lasagna and baked ziti
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- 1 lb. Hot Italian Sausage
- 1 large onion
- 6 cloves garlic
- 1 can tomato paste
- 2 cans diced tomato
- 2 cans tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 2 tbsp. fresh oregano
- 2 tbsp. fresh basil
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1 tbsp. pepper
- 2 tsp. red pepper flakes
- 1/4 c. red wine
Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder with Mustard and Sage

Place a rack in lower third of oven; preheat to 325°
- skinless, bone-in pork shoulder (Boston butt; 5–6 lb.)
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Dijon mustard
- finely chopped fresh sage

- 1 whole chicken (or pieces, bone-in)
- 2 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Dinosaur Rice Pudding

I used to think I made a pretty good rice pudding
- The Pudding:
- 4 cups (1 quart) half-and-half
- 11 cinnamon stick (3 inches long)
- Peel from 1/4 lime (all white pith removed)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 2/4 cup parboiled long-grain rice (preferably Uncle Bens)
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons dark rum
- The Garnish:
- Fresh mango cubes and whipped cream

- 8 oz dried wheat noodles
