Directions In large saucepan, melt margarine; saute onion until tender
- 6 tablespoons margarine or butter
- 1 tablespoon minced onion
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups cooked wild rice
- 1/2 cup finely grated carrots
- 1/3 cup minced ham
- 3 tablespoons chopped slivered almonds
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup half and half
- 2 tablespoons dry sherry, (optional)
- snipped fresh parsley or chives

- 1 1/4 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup diced crystallized ginger
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/3 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/4 cup butter, melted

- 1 1/3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt*
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup diced crystallized ginger
- If you use salted butter, reduce the salt to 1/8 teaspoon

- 3/4 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 cup heavy cream (see note)
- 8 ounces low-moisture whole-milk mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/4-inch pieces (about 1 1/2 cups) (see note)

- 2 (15.5 ounces each) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 ounces salt pork, rind removed and diced very small
- 1 small onion, chopped fine (about 3/4 cup)
- 1 jalapeno chile, seeds and ribs removed, chile minced
- 1 poblano chile, seeds and ribs removed, chile chopped fine (about 1/4 cup)
- 1/4 teaspoon table salt
- 3 small cloves garlic, minced or pressed through garlic press (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh cilantro leaves

- 2 pounds sirloin steak tips, trimmed of excess fat and cut into 1/2-inch chunks (see note)

- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 8 slices white American cheese (8 ounces)

- 3 ounces prosciutto, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup white wine
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon fresh oregano leaves
- 1/2 cup chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons capers
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
