Add: 3 cups sifted flour

- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup shortening
- Put an even tablespoon of baking soda into 1/2 cup molasses and set aside to foam for 15 minutes.
- Beat in egg and add to sugar and shortening mixture. Add molasses and stir. Add 2 tablespoons cold water and 1 tablespoon vinegar.
