- 1/8 teaspoon fines herbs (I like the one sold by Spice Island, see notes)
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2 tablespoons unsalted butter

- Filling:
- 11/2 cups shortening
- 2 2/3 cups packed brown sugar (I reduce down to 2 cups or just 1 box light brown sugar)
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (I now use wheat flour which tastes just as good)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 cups old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 3 cups confectioner’s sugar (I reduce down to 2 cups)
- 1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow crème
- 1 to 3 tablespoons milk (I use 3)
