- 1/3 cup uncooked rice
- 1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped
- 4 medium-size mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1/2 clove garlic, peeled and finely chopped
- 2 small tomatoes, peeled and chopped, or 1 can (215g) tomato pieces with the juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pinch black pepper
- 2 or 3 drops Tabasco sauce
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

- 2 Tbsp chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp chopped green pepper
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 cup rice
- 14 1/2 oz can tomatoes
- 1 tsp chili powder (more or less, to taste)
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- Salt & pepper to taste
- (NOTE: Try omitting the cumin and adding some ground saffron threads when you add the rice.)

- 2 lbs stew beef
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 3 cups sliced mushrooms
- 3 cups sliced carrots
- 3 med potatoes, cut into large chunks
- 1 can (14 1/2 oz) stewed tomatoes, undrained
- 1 can (14 1/2 oz) beef broth
