- 14 ounces strawberries, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces, plus some extra for decorating
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

- 3 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, divided
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
