Drop onto slightly greased cookie sheets and bake in preheated 375 F oven for 12 to 15 minutes

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup shortening or margarine
  • 11/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 11/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp.allspice
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • Boil raisins in water for 5 minutes. Cool. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add cooled raisins and juice. Then add mixture of remaining dry ingredients. Add nuts last.
