Heat a nonstick griddle (or pan) over medium heat
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tsp. vanilla , divided
- 1 loaf brioche , cut into 1-inch-thick slices
- Butter or cooking spray , for griddle
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice , from about 1 medium lemon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 cup cranberries , fresh or defrosted
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 Tbsp. confectioners' sugar

Spicy Black Beans with Chorizo & Chipotle Cream

- 1 1/2 cups dried black beans (about 10 ounces)
- 2 peeled onions; 1 halved, 1 chopped (about 2 cups)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (preferably Mexican)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 links fresh chorizo sausage (6 to 7 ounces casings removed)
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantro plus additional for garnish
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons minced seeded jalepeno chile
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 1/4 teaspoons chipotle-flavored hot pepper sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice

- Dry Rub:
- 3 tablespoons paprika

- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 garlic cloves, smashed
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon cayenne
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
