Ingredients
- Dough:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup shortening
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 8-10 tablespoons of water as needed for dough moisture
- Filling:
- 7 cup apples, peeled and finely chopped
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon
- dash of nutmeg
- Glaze:
- 1 cup confectioner sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Preparation
Step 1
Mix all ingredients for the dough until thoroughly mixed. Form into ball and divide. Form into discs and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Mix all ingredients for the filling, ensuring thorough mixing. Set aside.
Roll out one of the dough discs and lay on the bottom of a glass dish. Add the filling and spread evenly. Roll out the remaining dough and lay to cover. Slit the top in a few small places.
Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes until dough is golden brown.
Mix all ingredients for the glaze.
Once the bars are cooled, drizzle glaze across bars to cover.
Cut and serve.
