Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 1/4 cup cake flour
- 2/3 cup cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1
Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy with a mixer. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a third bowl, mix water and vanilla. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture to the shortening mixture and blend well. Add 1/3 of the water mixture and blend well. Continue to alternately add both the flour and water mix to the shortening mixture, blending in between, until gone. Batter will be very smooth.
Pour into greased 13x9 glass dish or 2 9inch round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes for the round pans and 35-40 minutes for the 13x9 pan.
Use desired frosting. Recommend frosting...Denise's homemade fudge icing.
