Ingredients

  • 3 TBS butter
  • 1 C brown sugar
  • 1/2 C pecans or walnuts
  • store bought pie crust
  • OR
  • 2/3 C shortening
  • 2 C flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • sliced apples
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter; mix with brown sugar, spread in 9 inch pie plate.

Press nuts on brown sugar mixture, flat sides up.

If making crust: Blend shortening into flour; add salt mixing well. Add about 5 TBS cold water blending until pastry leaves side of bowl. Roll half the pastry to fit pan.

Fill crust with sliced apples, add sugar and cinnamon.

Dot with additional butter.

If making crust: roll out the remaining pastry. If using store bought crust: Place crust over apples, sealing edges.

Bake 375-degree oven unil apples are tender. Turn out upside down.
