  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 12 cardamon seeds
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 12-14 cups flour (King Arthur flour only)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Scald together milk, butter and sugar.
2. Shell cardamom seeds and pulverize.
3. Add shelled cardamon seeds to milk.
4. Let cool until lukewarm.
5. Dissolve yeast cake in small amount of lukewarm milk.
6. Add to above mixture.
7. Add well beaten eggs.
8. Knead in just enough flour to handle and knead well, being careful not to use to much flour.
9. Cover and let rise until double in size.
10. When dough has doubled in size shape into buns or braid coffee bread. 11. Place on greased cookie sheet and cover.
12. let rise again until double in size.
13. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
14. Bake in 400 degree oven 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
