Ingredients

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees, rack in middle position.
  • 6 one-oz. squares semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups packed flour
  • OR
  • Use 2 packages brownie mix (makes 8 X 8 in square)
  • 5 to 7 three-ounce candy bars (Nestle’s Treasures, Hershey’s Sympony Bars, Nestle Crunch, etc.

Step 1

If using mix follow directions for each package and prepare by following directions on the box. Once batter is mixed, use the contents of one bowl for the bottom layer and the contents of the other bowl for the top.

Prepare 9 x 13 pan by lining with foil large enough to flap over sides and spray with Pam.

If making from scratch, Microwave the chocolate squares and butter for one minute and stir, if not melted microwave another 20 seconds. Stir in sugar, then eggs and vanilla. Mix in flour and stir until just moistened. Stir in half the batter into pan and smooth out.

If using mixes, stir in one bowl of batter into the prepared pan and smooth out.

Unwrap candy bars and place on top of first layer of batter, make a single layer and cover as much as possible, may have to break bars to fill to gaps. Spoon remaining batter on top of candy bars and smooth out.

Bake 30 minutes.

When cooled, grasp edges of foil and lift brownies out of pan. Put them facedown on cutting board, peel foil off back and cut into brownie-sized pieces. Place on plate and dust with powdered sugar.

Can freeze if leave whole and don’t put powdered sugar on them.
