This recipe is originally from Taste of Home. It is also found posted on Food.com (#156566). I always double the recipe and use the crock pot method.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 lb. bulk hot Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (16 oz) jar salsa
  • 1 can (16 oz) hot chili beans, undrained
  • 1 can (16 oz) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (12 oz) pizza sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes with green chilies
  • 1 pkg (8 oz.) sliced pepperoni, halved
  • 1 C. water
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 3 C. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: 1 can sliced mushrooms, black and/or green olives. For spicier recipe-add japalenos.

Preparation

Step 1

Cook beef, sausage, onion, green pepper and garlic in a dutch oven over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.

Stir in all remaining ingredients except cheese. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for at least 20 minutes. *Can also cook in crock pot.

Just before serving, sprinkle with cheese.
