Apple Crisp with Crushed Wheat Topping

Ingredients
- 4 to 5 cups baking apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 4 tbsp butter (1/2 stick), chilled
- 1 cup crushed wheat cereal flakes

Step 1
Set oven at 350 F. Spread apples in a buttered 11-by-7-by-2-inch pan. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon and water.
Combine flour, brown sugar and remaining teaspoon cinnamon; cut in butter with a pastry blender or two knives, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add cereal, mix and toss well, and distribute evenly over the apples. Bake for 30 minutes. Mound into bowls and top with ice cream if you wish (of course you do!)
