Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef stew meat
- 2 T. cooking oil
- ............................................
- 2 C. boiling water
- 1 t. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 1 to 2 bay leaves
- 1 t. salt
- 1 t. sugar
- 1/2 t. pepper
- 1/2 t. paprika
- dash of allspice or cloves
- ...........................................
- 2-3 large carrots, peeled and chunked
- 3-4 medium potatoes, peeled and chunked

Step 1
Thoroughly brown meet in hot oil. Add boiling water, Worchestershire sauce, garlic, onion, bay leaves and spices. Reduce heat and simmer until meat is tender 1-1 1/2 hours.
Remove garlic clove and bay leaves. Add carrots and potatoes. If stock has reduced, add 2 cups beef broth to liquid. Cook 30 min. or until vegetables are easily pierced.
Remove vegetables and meat from pan. Skim off any fat. Measure remaining meat stock. For 3 cups liquid, put 1/2 C. water in shaker. Add 1/4 C. flour. Shake until smooth. Add flour mixture slowly to meat stock, stirring constantly until gravy bubbles all over. Cook about 5 min. stirring often. Add meat and vegetales.
