Ingredients

  • Deutsch Meatballs:
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup fine dry breadcumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Sauce for Spaetzle:
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare Deutsch meatballs. Heat oil in a large skillet. Brown meatballs on all sides, shaking skillet frequently. Add broth, mushrooms and onion and caraway seeds. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Prepare Spaetzle. Blend sour cream and flour. Gradually stir into broth and meatball mixture. Stir constantly over low heat until mixture thickens but do not boil. Serve immediately with Spaetzle.
