Ingredients
- 1 pound (2 1/3 cups) lentils, washed
- 1 onion
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 5 cups water
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp minced onion

Step 1
Combine lentils, onion stuck with whole cloves, bay leaf, water and salt in a Dutch oven or in top-of-the-range heat-proof cooking ware. Bring water to boiling point. Cover; simmer 30 minutes. Without draining, stir in catsup, molasses, brown sugar, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce and minced onion. Cover and bake at 350 F for 1 hour. Serve with brown bread, relishes and not much else!
