Ingredients

  • 6 cups rolled oats (or any mixture of cereal grains and oats)
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup any combination of sesame, pumpkin or sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup any combination of raisins, coarsely chopped pitted dates, dried apples or dried apricots
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup honey (or part honey and part molasses)
  • 2/3 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Preparation

Step 1

Mix oats, flour, wheat germ, coconut, nuts, cornmeal, seeds, fruit and salt together in a large bowl. In a small bowl, combine honey, oil and hot water. Add honey mixture to grain mixture; spread on cookie sheet. Bake at 225 F for 1 hour and 30 minutes; stir every half-hour. Turn off heat and allow mixture to cool in oven; granola will crisp as it cools.
