Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1 lb. extra lean hamburger
  • 2/3 cup red wine
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground pepper
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 dashes Louisiana hot sauce
  • 1 14-oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. tomato paste

Step 1

In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Cook the onion, carrot, celery and garlic for 10 minutes.

Add hamburger and cook, breaking up as you go. Optionally, cook hamburger in a separate pan and remove any excess fat before adding to pot.

Add wine and simmer until the wine evaporates.

Add milk and simmer until the milk evaporates.

Add the spices, Worcestershire sauce, Louisiana sauce, tomatoes and tomato paste and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours.

Double or triple the ingredients for a larger freezer batch, but mind the amount of extra vino or you'll have none to sip while cooking! ;o)

Taste occasionally and adjust seasonings to taste.
