Black Bear Molasses Forest Cookies

By

When you are working with chillled dough, take only the portion you are working with from the refrigerator. Leave the rest so that it remains chilled. Most dough can be re-chilled and rolled out again. Chocolate dough sometimes needs to sit a few minutes before rolling.

Preparation

Step 1

Sift all dry ingredients together. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugars until smooth. Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Add dry ingredients, a little at a time until well mixed. Make dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 F. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8- to 1/4-inch thick. Dip cookie cutter in flour, cut out cookies and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes until almost firm when touched. Put thick ribbons around your bears neck or make icing and decorate!
