Preparation

Step 1

Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Coat an 8" square pan and a
slightly larger piece of waxed paper with nonstick cooking spray.
Melt margarine in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows.
Stir until melted. Remove from heat and stir in cereal until well
coated. Scrape into prepared pan. Press evenly with sprayed waxed
paper. Cool completely.
Hats: For each: Slice 1/4" from bottom of gumdrop. With rolling pin,
roll out slice on sugar-sprinkled work surface to 1/8" thick brim.
Press gumdrop onto brim.
Bodies: Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Invert cereal mixture
onto a cutting board and cut in half, then cut each half crosswise in
5 equal strips, each about 1 1/2" wide. Round off corners of 1 end of
each. Stand, rounded end up, at least 2" apart on cookie sheet.
Feet: Cut circus peanuts in half crosswise. For each pair, place 2
halves side by side. Cut a V from center where feet meet. Place these
cut sides together so feet "toe out". Press in place against bodies.
Sheets: Put 3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar in a medium bowl; reserve
remaining sugar (about 1/3 cup). Add marshmallow cream and stir,
pressing mixture against side of bowl until it clumps together. Knead
on work surface, gradually adding reserved sugar, until dough is
smooth (will still be slightly sticky). Divide in 10 equal portions.
Roll each into a ball.
Dust work surface and rolling pin with cornstarch. Roll out each ball
to a 6 1/2" circle, turning dough and dusting with cornstarch to
prevent sticking. Brush off excess cornstarch. Drape over bodies
(sheets will harden with time, but will still remain edible).
Eyes: Slide a hand under sheet behind each body for support. Press
chocolate chip eyes through front of sheet into body.
Place hats on top.


NOTES : On a humid day you may need more confectioners' sugar.

TIP: Before measuring or stirring marshmallow cream, lightly coat
measuring cups and utensils with nonstick cooking spray.
