Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Marscapone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 tsp instant coffee granules
  • 2 Tbs Kahlua or brandy
  • 2-3 oz ladyfingers
  • 1 oz grated semisweet chocolate
  • 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa

Step 1

Combine egg yolks and sugar in top of double boiler. Beat at med. speed with electric mixer until thick and lemon-colored. Place over boiling water, reduce heat to med. and cook 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Mix should be thick. Remove from heat and beat in mascarpone until smooth. Cool slightly. Beat whipping cream until soft peaks form; fold into cheese mixture. Combine boiling water, coffee and liqueur and brush on the cut side of the ladyfingers. Line bottom and sides of 3-qt bowl with ladyfingers, cut side in. Spoon 1/2 of filling into bowl and sprinkle with 1/2 of grated chocolate. Top with remaining ladyfingers, broken up, followed by the remainder of the filling. Sprinkle with remainder of chocolate. Top with cocoa. Cover and refrigerate. Can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
