Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lbs flank steaks
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, divided
  • 3/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 6-oz can tomato paste
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 T chili powder
  • 3 T cider vinegar
  • 2 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 12 sandwich buns

Preparation

Step 1

Trim the fat from the steaks and trim to fit slow cooker. Combine 1 T brown sugar and pepper. Rub over steaks.

Place remaining brown sugar, tomato paste, and next 9 ingredients in slow cooker. Stir well. Add steaks, turning to coat. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour. Reduce to low and cook 7-8 hours more. Remove steak from slow cooker, reserving sauce in cooker.

Shred steak with forks. Return steak to cooker and stir into sauce. Spoon onto buns.
