  • 3 green tomatoes
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1-1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 eggs

Step 1

Wash and slice tomatoes into approximately 1/4” slices. Mix buttermilk and eggs in a mixing bowl, adding half of the salt and pepper and one tablespoon of flour. Mix well. Place tomato slices in buttermilk/egg mixture. Preheat oil to 350 degrees in heavy skillet. Mix remaining flour, salt and pepper in a mixing bowl. Toss tomato slices into flour. Place in the oil and fry until golden brown, turning two or three times. Cook until crisp and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
