Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lentil puree
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 cup chopped jalapeno peppers, optional
- 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
- 6 slices low fat Montery Jack or Cheddar cheese
- 6 hamburger buns (whole grain)
- Optional garnish: tomato, avocado, salsa

Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl mix lentil puree, salsa, wheat germ, cumin, and jalapenos. Then add the ground beef/turkey, mixing with hands until well combined. If too sticky add a bit more wheat germ.
Using damp hands, shape mixture into 6 patties.
Spray a large nonstick skillet or grill pan with nonstick cooking spray and set over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking. Cook the burgers for 3 minutes on each side, then flip and add cheese to melt over patties for another 3 minutes.
Serve on fresh, soft burger buns with garnishes.
