When buying shell nuts, this is a handy key to have so that you can take advantage of the lower market prices.
Almonds: 1 1/2 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 3 cups whole or 2 2/3 cups chopped
Black walnuts: 5 1/2 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 3 cups halves or 3 cups chopped
Chestnuts: 1 1/2 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 2 1/2 cups whole or 2 cups chopped
English walnuts: 2 1/4 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 4 to 4 1/2 cups halves or 3 1/2 to 4 cups chopped
Filberts: 2 1/2 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 3 to 3 1/2 cups whole or 3 cups chopped
Pecans: 2 pounds in shell = 1 pound shelled, 4 to 4 1/2 cups halves or 4 cups chopped
