Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup coffee
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs room temp
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp vanila extract

Preparation

Step 1

1. preheat oven to 350
2. melt the butter in the coffee,then whisk the buttermilk in. set aside
3. put the eggs and sugar in bowl and mix on low speed
4. gradually add one at a time - flour, salt, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. mix until just combined
5. add the vanilla and the coffee mixture. mix until combined
6. pour batter almost to the top
7. bake 15-20 min using the toothpick method
8 cool for 5 min move to a rack

Orange Frosting
1/2 c unsalted butter room temp
1 egg york room temp
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 tbsp orange juice
the zest of 1 orange

cream the butter until fluffy, add yolk and vanilla beat 4 minutes. add orange juice and zest beat 1 minute. add sugar and beat until smooth frost cooled cakes
