Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

To make the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the Parmesan, bread crumbs, onion powder, sage, salt, a few grinds of black pepper, to taste, and parsley. Add the ground round, pork, eggs, and garlic and gently combine. Form into 8 equal-sized meatballs.

In a 10-inch saute pan over medium-high heat, add the vegetable oil. When the oil begins to swirl, add the meatballs and sear until light golden on all sides, about 10 minutes. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast until cooked through, 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the sauce: In a large saucepan over medium heat, add the oil, onion, bell pepper, garlic, a pinch of salt, and a few grinds of black pepper, to taste. Saute until tender, then add the oregano, cayenne pepper, crushed tomatoes, and hot sauce. Taste and add sugar, if needed. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, and cook for about 20 minutes more.

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Serve the cooked pasta with sauce and meatballs, divided among serving plates with 2 meatballs per serving. Garnish with Parmesan cheese.

REVIEWS:

My guy LOVED!!!! This recipe. His favorite meal is spaghetti and meatballs. But this receipe is one he had not tasted before. The meatballs were so moist and flavorful. I have decided to pre-make some of the meatballs and store them in the freezer for future meals.

My husband loved the sauce and the meatballs. I do not eat pork so used ground beef and ground chicken. Will definitely continue to use this recipe.

The hot sauce is a nice surprise and differentiates this recipe from the classic Italian. Definite keeper

Yum! This was such a good twist on regular spaghetti sauce. I love the spicy kick to the sauce and the meatballs turned out perfect. The sage and pork gave the meatballs a wonderful sausage flavor! Delicious.

I've made this recipe twice and it's definitely a keeper. Made only the spaghetti portion because I don't eat meat. I found the spaghetti to be a little dry the first time, but the flavors are great. I added a little more oil and sauce to reduce the dryness, along with some olives and mushrooms.

Great meatballs!! Next time I will freeze some, but is it best to freeze them raw or cooked?

Wow...this is a keeper! Great flavor and so easy to make. I will never buy store bought sauce again. I will make this again and forget the carry out dinner. My husband loves spaghetti and meat balls and this one really works. Thanks for the recipe. Yummy:

Went to a friends house for dinner last night and had to have the recipe! Wonderful meal, can't wait to make it myself.

Very good! The family asks for it! I always freeze half of the meatballs and make another batch of sauce later. Yummy!

We made these last night. SO good. SO easy to make. My 10 year old lil chef did it all herself (with the exception of the frying and baking of course! We used 'italian sausage meat' to give it an extra kick. The flavour was amazing. I will make these again for SURE and maybe even a bigger batch to have some for my freezer for those busy nights.

I loved the meatballs, did not make the sauce. OUTSTANDING Flavor, I always add a lil more than the measurements for flavor, but will be one of my families favorites for a lifetime. WOW and thanks for the

This was the best, greatest flavor. My boyfriend an I loved it. I use the meat ball recipe for other dishes too. You are awesome, Sunny!

This was the best spaghetti I've ever tasted! The sauce was so yummy and the meatballs were awesome! Every man will love this meal! I made it even spicier the second time I tried it by adding a minced jalapeno. I then use the leftover meatballs for meatball subs. You have to try it!

I absolutely love this recipe! These meatballs are perfect. I've started making them smaller instead of the mega size so that I can freeze half of them. I just pop them in jarred sauce for a quick and easy dinner. I've also made them with all beef because I didn't have sausage on hand and they were still moist and tasted great. I add extra tomatoes to the sauce because that's how I normally make my sauce, but that's mostly for texture. It's a simple recipe, but it packs a lot of flavor. Definitely a keeper!

This is the second time making this recipe. We loved it so much!
I accidently used Italian sausage instead of pork sausage. I had to add more bread crumbs to get the right consistency. But, believe it or not, they turned out great! I had to cook them about 10 extra minutes in the oven & added them to the sauce. So now we have two wonderful mega meatball recipes! Thanks Sunny!!!

We made the whole she-bang with some reservations about the sauce texture and some other things but, we followed the recipe and instructions. We were overwhelmed with the amazing flavorful taste.

We didn't make the sauce, just the meatballs, but they were the best meatballs I've ever had in my whole life! We just used store bought sauce, because I was being lazy, and we cooked our pasta in a bottle of wine with enough water to fill the pot. It was fantastic! Next time, we'll try the sauce too.

Followed the recipe for the meatballs exactly and they turned out fantastic! My husband said they are the best meatballs he's ever had and he wants me to make them at least twice a week!!

I just seen this episode today. This is how a cooking show should be. The ingredients are easy to find and Sunny is a great hostess. She doesn't put you to sleep like some of the personalities do

I LOVE THIS RECIPE...WHEN MY DAD SEEN THEM HE WAS SCARED HE SD MEATBALLS ON STEROIDS...LOL...1 OF THE GREEDY NEIGHBORS WHO ALWAYS COME OVER AT 6PM...DINNER TIME...THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE MINI MEAT LOAFS...LOL...BUT EVERY1 LOVED THEM...BUT THE 1 DRAW BACK NEIGHBOR ATE 1 & FEEL ASLEEP ON THE COUCH...LOL

This is a great, easy recipe! I followed the recipe for the meatballs exactly, except that I added a small spoonful of shredded mozzarella cheese in the center of the meatballs when I was making them. They turned out to be very moist and the seasonings were just right. I liked the combination of the pork and beef together.

DH loves meatballs, but I don't. I decided to give these a try and they are fabulous. I didn't use the cheese because he's lactose intolerant, but followed the recipe exactly except for that. He said they were the best meatballs he's ever had. I was worried that the sauce might be too spicy, but it was perfect. I'll definitely be making this again.

Wow, my whole family loved this. I had to make a few changes because my kids don't like spicy food and my husband doesn't eat beef. I substituted ground turkey for the ground beef. I also made my meatballs smaller than the recipe calls for. The recipe says to make 8, I made 14. I left out the hot sauce and cayenne pepper from the sauce, but added chili powder, basil and fresh parsley for depth of flavor. I used San Marzano tomatoes and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. This also makes and EXCELLENT meatball sub, just pop the meatballs on a toasted sub roll and top it with the sauce and grated cheese.

I saw this episode yesterday and was inspired! The meatballs were most excellent and I really like the flavour even though I didn't have the rubbed sage and didn't use Parmesan cheese. Still very very tasty! I think this might soon be a family favourite!
