Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, cut in half crosswise
  • and peeled
  • salted water
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp prepared mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Place onions cut side up in large frying pan. Add salted water, enough to cover bottom of pan, approximately 1/4 inch deep. Cover. Simmer 20 minutes. Add more water if needed.

Mix remaining ingredients together. Pour over onions. Continue to cook covered. Baste often. Cook until liquid is almost gone. Transfer to serving platter. Spoon any remaining sauce over top.
