Ingredients

  • 2 tsp cooking oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 celery ribs, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (or 1/4 tsp powder)
  • 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 14 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (or 2 1/2 tsp flakes)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried crushed chilies
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • pepper, sprinkle

Preparation

Step 1

Heat cooking oil in large saucepan on medium. Add next 5 ingredients. Scramble-fry for about 10 minutes until ground beef is no longer pink. Drain.

Add remaining 11 ingredients. Stir. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, uncovered, for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are softened and sauce is thickened. Discard bay leaf.
