Preparation

Step 1

1. Blend the butter and margarine spread together (buy a healthy butter spread that does not have palm oil in it). Make sure they are both at room temperature and soft before mixing them. Start at low speed and slowly increase your speed so they are well incorporated.

2. Add your sugar to the butter and margarine and mix until incorporated well. Start at low speed and increase gradually. You can stop the mixer at different times and with a spatula scrape the sides of the bowl towards the center.

3. Add your egg and vanilla to the mixture and mix well.

4. Add your flour one big table spoon at a time while mixing at low speeds and then gradually increase speed. Again scrape the sides of the bowl towards the center with a spatula and mix well.

5. Place your pastry dough or sugar dough on a tray or bowl and flatten out. Cover and store in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours before taking it out to make your cookies, pie shell, or fruit tarts. The longer it stays in the refrigerator the better.

You have made your sugar dough or pastry dough. Use this dough to make cookies, apple pies, fruit tarts and more.

For Sugar Cookies:

Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.

Bake in 350 degree preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes just until edges are lightly browned.

Remove to cooling rack to cool. Frost as desired.
