Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 qt. milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins (soaked in optional rum)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350.

Gather, cube, soak and chop ingredients as listed above.

Melt butter over low flame in med. saucepan.
Wisk in milk, sugar and eggs. Wisk in vanilla and stir till very warm.

Put bread in lg. bowl. Add milk mixture. Stir in walnuts. Spoon in raisins with a small of rum in each spoonful. Mix well.

Bake for 45 to 50 minutes. Great hot or cold.
