These were my dad's favorite cookie, so of course, as a kid who loved her dad, they were mine. These are dark and crispy and chewy all in one. I add nuts sometimes but they don't really need them.

Ingredients

  • 3 C SIFTED flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 C sugar
  • 1.5 C butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 C molasses
  • 1.5 C oatmeal

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375
Use ungreased cookie sheets

Sift flour, soda, salt, cloves, ginger & sugar into bowl. Add butter, egg, molasses and beat for 2 minutes until smooth.
Lightly stir in oats (and add nuts now if you like).
Use level teaspoon of dough for each cookie and place 2" apart on cookie sheet.
Cook for 8-10 minutes, let cool for a couple minutes on sheet, then remove with spatula to cooling rack.
Makes at least 4 dozen.
