Ingredients

  • 16 slices day-old bread, crusts removed and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 pt milk
  • 1/2 lb Old English cheese, grated and separated into three piles
  • 1/2 C melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a greased casserole dish, alternate layers of bread, cheese, bread, cheese and bread.

2. Beat eggs and milk together and pour over bread-and-cheese layers. Pour melted butter over that.

3. Feel your arteries harden just looking at the result.

4. Refrigerate overnight.

5. Preheat oven to 400.

6. Bake casserole in pan of hot water in oven for 45 minutes or (probably) more.
