Ingredients
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter softened
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1
Combine flour, salt and baking soda in bowl. Stir to combine. Lightly beat egg in another bowl. Add sugar, butter and shortening and mix well with an electric mixer until smooth. Add half and half, milk, buttermilk and vanilla. mix well. Add dry flour mixture to wet mixture while beating. Mix until smooth. Cover and chill overnight. Rub a light coating of vegetable oil on waffle iron. Preheat waffle iron. leave batter out of the refrigerator to warm up a bit as your waffle iron is preheating. Spoon 1/3 to 1/2 cup batter into the waffle iron and cook 3-4 minutes or until waffles are light brown.
