- 1 cup softened butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon soda

Mix butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla, and almond extract thoroughly. Blend in flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Cover: chill 2 to 3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough in half. Roll each half 3/16 of an inch thick on a floured board. Cut into desired shapes; sprinkle with sugar if you do not plan to frost. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until edges brown. Cool completely and frost with powdered sugar frosting.
Frosting: 1/3 cup butter or margarine, 3 cups powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 2 tablespoons milk.
Blend butter and sugar. Stir in vanilla and milk; beat until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency.
